Live review of the Baby Baby CD release show that happened on May 21st, 2011

Hey everyone,

Examiner Atlanta posted the following live review of the Baby Baby CD release show that occurred at the Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, May 21st, 2011.

Here is the review:

"On Saturday May 21, 2011 at 9:45 at the Drunken Unicorn, I began a musical advernture that I will not soon forget. This was a special show celebrating the release of the album Money, by an Atlanta up and coming band called Baby Baby. The headliner was joined by two bands based out of Tennessee, Machines are People Too and Parachute Musical. This show struck me because of the high level of talent by all three bands. In my many years of going to small shows, it has been almost a fact of life that the headliner will be talented and the bands coming before are so-so at best. So when the electro-rock band Machines are People Too got on stage, I was pleasantly surprised.

Machines are People Too, are a 3 piece band featuring Brian Sylvester on vocals, keyboard, and beat machine, Cain Lassiter on the keyboards, and Ivan Garcia on the drums. They are self described as an "Indie Pop Dance" group on their Facebook Page. Their music features a strong danceable beat, with evolving electronicr rythms, and a very capable drummer keeping it all together. The vocalist, Sylvester, is solid and really gets into the show. Throughout all of the set he is dancing around on stage, and at times even off the stage. Machines are People Too are the perfect band to really get a crowd into a show, an all-around great lead off hitter.

Next up to the plate was Parachute Musical out of Nashville, TN. A very talented Indie/Punk Rock quartet featuring Josh Foster on piano and lead vocals, Tim Gilbert on guitar and back-up vocals, Andrew Samples on bass guitar and back-up vocals, and Ben Jacoby on drums. With strong melodic vocals and a harder punk rock instrumentation, these guys remind me of a fresher version of angsty teenage punk bands like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus or Yellow Card. This is a group that really knows how to interact with the crowd, drawing them in between songs with amusing banter and stories. At one point during the show they even tried to convince a girl in the crowd to make-out with their manager, to the delight of the crowd.

Now, the band that everyone at the show really came out to see was the buzz worthy Baby Baby.

Two years ago, two roommates at their apartment's pool decided to start playing together. These two were the guitarist Fontez Brooks and the drummer Grant Wallace. At this point Brooks had only just picked up a guitar two months earlier. They went back to the apartment to start making "noise" as Wallace described it. Unable to "escape" the duo playing, the third roommate, Colin Boddy, put his own percussion set together and began to join in on the fun. After a couple months, Kyle Dobbs joined in as the bassist, and thus Baby Baby was formed.

Their self-described "fun rock" seems to link the musicality of punk rock and the attitude of Andrew W.K. There music is all about getting by in life with no money and being dumped by girls. These two topics combined creating the first song off their new album Money, "Instead Of Spending My $20 On the Blink 182 Reunion Show I Took You Out On a Date and You Never Returned My Phone Call So Don't Ever Expect to Eat Free Shrimp Scampi Again Bitch!" The album overall is very catchy and hard not to bang your head to. Their possible downfall is the lyrics, which are only skin-deep, but honestly the energy and passion they put behind the music goes beyond making up for this shortcoming.

Live this band can only be described as "something else". The energy they put into the album is just a blip on the radar compared to what they put into this album release show. It would really be hard to say if the group, especially Brooks, was in control of themselves the entire time on stage. This didn't affect their ability to play their instruments, but Fontez did drop some lyrics because of raw energy he put into his performance, not getting back to the mic in time. Also between songs, Fontez Brooks and Colin Boddy had the tendency to ramble in a sometimes successful attempt to amuse most of the crowd. Besides the lengths of these ramblings, the two members had the tendency to trip over the line between being funny and just being vulgar. I do not blame them for that, because I believe they were caught up in the reality of the night. It was the beginning of their first east coast tour and their album release show, and I highly doubt that every show they play is so crass.

At the end of the night, all the pent up energy in the room just exploded, as Baby Baby and members from the other groups performed "Fire", Baby Baby's most popular single. By the end of the, members from the other groups had to take over as Fontez Brooks and Colin Boddy literally hung from the rafters of the Drunken Unicorn. The anguish in the production manager's face was palpable. Not only did Baby Baby lose it, but the craziness spread into the crowd as stage diving and crowd surfing ensued. It was almost impossible not to get caught up in good times.

While the show did have its downfalls, I have to say that I have never had such a good time watching four sweaty shirtless men in short shorts performing on stage. Their music may be about not having a cent to their name, but the future holds a great deal of riches for Baby Baby, and they will soon not have to worry about money anymore."

Tricksy is the second act of the evening.

Tricksy is the derby-inspired project created by Julie Clark in 2009. After seeing her first flat track roller derby bout in 2008, Julie became obsessed/inspired by all things roller derby. It was then that Julie came out of retirement as a musician and founded her own band. Julie started her music career in Atlanta in the early 90's and was soon touring with the likes of Wendy Bucklew and Lift as a bass player and backing vocalist. It was in 1998 when she was tapped by Shawn Mullins to play bass in promotion of his new self-released (now Platinum) record. She has shared the stage with the Indigo Girls, Chris Isaak and Hootie and the Blowfish and has made appearances on the Tonight Show, the Rosie O'Donnell Show, VH1's Hard Rock Live and television appearances all over western Europe.
This road tested veteran now seeks to blaze her own unique trail with her new band by bringing a more aggressive sound than her previous projects. Tricksy's songs are irreverent, humorous and hard-edged with no apologies offered. Tricksy has enlisted the help of former Cogburns frontman, Glenn Kuras on guitar, Flat Cat guitarist, Amy Rollinson, Former Mulva Twitch bassist, Michael Smitherman and the hard-hitting Mark Trouse on drums.
Tricksy seeks to embody the sights, sounds and attitude of the modern roller derby. If ever a sport screamed for its own soundtrack, roller derby is that sport and Tricksy aims to provide the music.
Lace up your skates and get ready for some hard hitting sounds!

Friday, June 10th Secret Cities is performing at the Drunken Unicorn

PFH Productions presents:

Secret Cities at the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, June 10th, 2011

Started by MJ Parker and Charlie Gokey at the tender age of 15, Secret Cities grew out of a shared love of psychedelic pop and a pen-pal arrangement that saw the pair trading 4-track tapes through the mail. The band eventually expanded to a trio with the addition of fellow Midwesterner and kindred spirit Alex Abnos (aka Kansas City’s Tut Tut) on drums. After a few small releases on Baltimore’s Fall Records, the band released its proper full length debut (the well-received Pink Graffiti) in 2010 on Western Vinyl. Following a nationwide tour in support of that release, the band spent several intense months writing and recording new material, re-imagining their sound as a fractured take on classic AM radio pop. Strange Hearts, the resulting album, is due in on March 29 on Western Vinyl.

Wowser Bowser are performing second.

He's hardly even playing any instruments onstage, and the drummer looks like Pete Townshend.

"Pleasant Life!" intones Pettis, sounding like Bowser if he was actually Charles Foster Kane, and Mario was this plumber that reminded him of the solitary despondency of wealth. But then Mario becomes a charity project, invited to "kick it" and get on a train like it was before sunrise on a bucket list. Juxtaposed with the mdma bubbles they're embedded in it comes off like a spirit guide on the world of tomorrow ride at epcot, layering gurgling synths on top of what sounds like a keytar if it were actually a guitar shaped like a korg. Just don't call him twee, he might cry a tear in the shape of a K." -Discount Coupon

Fishhawk will be performing here on Saturday, June 4th

Fishhawk are performing at the Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, June 4th, 2011.

"First, I want to nominate Fishhawk, and specifically track number three from this album, Blackout Reign, to be the next Bond movie theme song. From there you can sorta of see where this album and Fishhawk are coming from. Fishhawk and more specifically Spacehawk literally has it all….funk, grime, prophecy, groove, love, and of course…space. The album immediately kicks off with a robotic voice no doubt telling us of some great event or happening to come. From there the listener is hit with First Transmission, a Radiohead-esque meditational song that I'm sure came from another planet all together. The lyrics are a saga of metaphorical ecstasy followed with acoustic guitar and a real spaced out melody.

Blackout Reign is the next track and by far my favorite…it reminds me of a Bond movie intro in that it has an epic feel with this sort of noir feeling to it. It definitely belongs on a soundtrack to an epic crime drama. Minutes Against Time deviates from the mystifying feeling of the first two tracks and adds a more disco dance feel. The vocal styling remains in the same arena but he speeds it up to match the meteoric beat. Prying into the Sun's Life is another one of my favorites. It's an introspective song that plays on emotions and fears of the subject...."Prying into the sun's life, prying into the sun…its hotter than hell, hotter than hell. Its hotter than hell."

Spacehawk is truly a journey into the futuristic mindsets of three amazingly talented musicians. The album could be considered conceptual as each track carries the feeling to the next. This album would make a great companion to any dark dance floor, strobe lights flashing, sweat beads flying. I also found it to be quite good driving music." Review of "Spacehawk" by BeAtlanta

Clap For Daylight are performing second.

Like a dramatic slow clap excitedly gaining momentum, Clap for Daylight began as a cavalier suggestion in an Atlanta dive in 2007 and has since originated a powerful album with a dramatic sound uniquely their own. As Nashville roommates, fellow music students Greg Vilines and Alex Arnett discovered they shared more than milk and the same dingy bathroom, but also a mutual interest in eclectic music styles and an admittedly arrogant taste in artists. When fate landed them both independently in Atlanta, they took it as a sign and combined talents to form Clap for Daylight.

The friends composed and recorded album tracks in their personal studio and at Sounds Atlanta, attracting drummer Michael Tucker, keyboardist David Oliver and a chorus of local talent along the way.

Mathis Hunter & The Rinse are headlining the Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

“Noot d’ Noot drummer Mathis Hunter marks his solo debut with Soft Opening, a psychedelic rock record that’s ornate in its subtleties and laid-back by design. “Gathering the Hopeful Gamblers” is a slow explosion of sun-bleached textures that rides on waves of nostalgia, teetering between melancholy and cheer but never leaning too far either way. “See the Light” and “Rapid Cycles” are the unlikely pop-rock opuses here. Both show off previously unheard dimensions of Hunter’s voice. There’s also a wall of sound quality to the record that mingles with his rich vocal harmonics, recalling Spiritualized and David Crosby in equal measure. “Endless Psalm Sound” closes the album with the Selmanaires harmonizing with Beach Boys-like radiance, adding wistfulness to a record that is as reflective as it is hypnotic.” – Chad Radford / Creative Loafing

They have shared past bills with touring bands like Jay Reatard.

Pete DeLorenzo of Gringo Star is performing solo as the opener.

Here is what Daytrotter had to say about Gringo Star:

"As it so happens, Charles Bukowski writes about women in a way that is significantly different from the way that the guys in Gringo Star think about and write about women. Last night, reading through the first 100 pages of Bukowski's 1969 poetry and prose collection, "The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses Over the Hills," before clicking the bedside lamp off, after listening to these three new songs from the Atlanta, Georgia, garage rock band, we determined that these are opposite views at work. Bukowski doesn't seem to attach the same kind of mystique to the women he meets at the various filthy horse tracks or crap bars that he frequents in his sour states. These turn out to be depressed or chronically drunk women, with little to no self-esteem - proven by the very examples of his frequent sexual acts described via his poetry. If they weren't so depressed or chronically drunk and therefore depressed and lacking, they'd surely never go to bed with such a horrid and depraved human being as he tends to pen himself as. No, these women surely are about as non-mystical as they could be, weighed down by their years and all of the missteps within them that applied the wrinkles and a sadness that's impossible to diminish.

Nick Furgiuele, Peter Furgiuele, Pete DeLorenzo and Chris Kaufmann, the members of Gringo Star travel on the other side of the consideration, where there's nothing that's been so much as even slightly deciphered about the female, its form or what they'll do next. They sing about women in that black magic sense where we wouldn't be surprised to see or hear about them doing anything. These women are full of magic. They might even glow - light coming out of their ears and out of their eyes. They are dangerous and potentially deceitful -- still, but they have a greater capacity for evoking wonderment and awe than the women that Bukowski seems to attract or be attracted to. These are the main subjects of any Gringo Star song and they are pulled off with a beautiful skuzzy energy that makes these encounters feel as if they happened in the back alleys or they struck men backwards off of their shredded bar stools in those holes in the wall that they frequent during their happy hours, trying to get drunk before dinnertime. There are parts to these songs that sound as they happen to men not all that unlike the guy that Bukowski might have started off as, but these Gringo Stars are on a different path, one that will leave them happy waking up next to that same great woman that they've been going to bed with for years and years. Given a similar situation, Bukowski would have thrown up."

Adron will be performing before Jason Webley

"Adron is the eponymous debut and stage moniker of twenty year-old Adrienne McCann. Influenced by late ‘60s Brazilian Tropicàlia, Adron has infused her debut with an international texture and a remarkably vintage sound. She adds to her songs a unique array of embellishments, whistles, and mouth-clicks, and a lyrical sensibility both intelligent and whimsical. Adron plays her nylon string guitar with the casually adept flourish of a Bossa Nova maestro twice her age. This becomes more impressive when we learn that the majority of these songs were originally written when she was fifteen and sixteen years old. There’s a double-awareness in Adron’s music that eludes many songwriters; a sense of self-identity and astute observation that allows her to combine the earnest yearnings of a teenage American girl with the classic melodies and rhythms of a musical movement that began in another country, more than twenty years before she was born. Her youthful exuberance and adroit musicianship together form a style both distinctive and pleasing, but it is her rare ability to meld genre, geography, and musical epochs that reveal the true breadth of Adron’s talent. One can easily sense that this debut is but the first notable stirring of an expansive musical journey to come." -courtesy of New Street Records

Jeffrey Bützer will be performing solo a live score to Buster Keaton's film The Balloonatic as the opener.

Although raised by a piano teacher/church organist, Jeffrey is a self-taught musician/composer. He began playing drums at age nine, then picked up guitar and piano in his teen years and began writing instrumentals. Over the years, accordion, toy piano, electric piano, chord organs, glockenspiel, melodica, banjo and other noise makers have worked their way into his repertoire. His debut full-length album She Traded Her Leg (Lona Records, 2006) was received to great acclaim and supported by an international tour, including dates in Hong Kong, Paris, and across the United States. His follow up release, The Garden of Scissors (2009) continues in the imaginitive musical collagework of his prior release while expanding on new ground, including collaborations with Sanni Baumgaertner of Dancer vs. Politician.

Just Let It Be, You Don't Have To Agree presents:

Eryn Woods "Holl.E.Woods" cd release show at the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, May 27th, 2011

Recently featured on MTV’s The Jersey Shore,VH1’s Beverly Hills Fabulous and VH1’s Mob Wives. Eryn Woods is a 21 year old Louisiana native out to redefine the image of the “pop princess.” The black swan of the bubble gum world, Eryn has been touring the nation and rallying her “kupcake” army in an effort to change the status quo. “Everything isn’t glitter and glam, even with all the fame,” notes Woods. “It’s about finding yourself and maturing, and owning the blood, sweat, and tears, it takes to get there.”

Eryn’s career gained momentum in 2005 after reaching the semi-finals of Gospel Dream, a nationally televised solo vocal competition, where she caught the eye of Grammy nominated singer Kelly Price. Her musical pedigree includes five years of vocal training and over 12 years of combined musical study.

“Hollywood” conjures up the images of “making it,” and this is at the core of Holl.E.Woods. The entire album is centered around the dichotomy of what the general public deems as “normal” and what is “real,” and celebrates the individuality of people.

"What we’ve all been highly anticipating, since “The Starting Five” mixtape has finally landed and is here to listen too for our eardrums to vibe too. Atlanta’s very own, deeperthandope approved duo Retro Sushi this past saturday hit the streets with their twitter crazed anticipated ep titled “The Retro Sushi EP”. With the past features from Jace and Ceej on Travis Porter’s latest mixtape and a pleasant surprise on a Lex Luger production on an up and coming rapper Reese track there was definitely a buzz around there upcoming music. After a listen of the lp, I was very much impressed with the production of it as a whole.

The beat selections are perfect, they give off a real calm riding around Atlanta on a sunny day feel. To me that is good music. Listening to the lyrics Jace and Ceej deliver well written verses on pretty every track with clever punchlines, thought provoking references, and good mix of storytelling. Features from FKB and other Pilot Music affiliated artist add to music. The stand out tracks to me “Fuck An Introduction”, “Winning”, and “It’s You”. I suggest if you like hip hop music you give it a listen.

Atlanta’s hip-hop scene continues to grow day by day, Jace and Ceej seem to have strong ambitions of contributing to that, it’s only right that we show love as an up and coming movement within ourselves and through the blog scene continue to support these artist. As mentioned earlier the track “Winning” is without a doubt represents their every goal soon to be accomplished, produced by Child Major it’s hip-hop at it’s best!" - DeeperThanDope

Demond Toney, known to many as "Da Dreamer," is arousing the music world, stirring up excitement and interest in the hearts of all Hip Hop lovers. Embodying a sound large enough to fill the Phillips Arena, his music is the perfect concoction of rhythmic lyrics, sharp chords, and synthesized ballads.

His music is reminiscent of the the laid back ballads and street critiquing lyrics of the Grammy Award winning, Outkast. With Stankonia Studios being a second home to Da Dreamer, and Outkast's Andre Benjamin his inspiration and mentor, its refreshing to know that the great feeling of "cruising the ATL music" is creeping back into the scene. With the infamous "Snap Music Craze" slowing dying down, hopefuls alike will be glad for the change Da Dreamer will bring this Summer.

Baby Baby are celebrating the release of "MONEY" on Saturday, May 21st

Performer Magazine and The Gospel Of Rhythm Recordings presents:

Baby Baby's "MONEY" release show on Saturday, May 21st, 2011

"At their live shows, Baby Baby said, they “get the crowd to enjoy us by any means necessary. And somewhere during the set, everyone gets pretty naked.”

Whenever I see a band perform live, usually about one of three things happen. I either leave feeling exactly the same as when I came in, a little bit more excited than when I came in or absolutely ecstatic about the band I went to see and generally pretty hopeful about all music. The latter only happens about 5 percent of the time — and local band Baby Baby falls into that slim category.

Self-described as a "fun-rock" band, Baby Baby is a group of Carrollton, Ga., natives: guitarist Fontez Brooks, drummer Grant Wallace, bassist Kyle Dobbs and newly added percussionist Colin Boddyv. Their style is a distinct and disorienting blend that sounds like someone took Prince, forced him into Sum 41 and made the pop-punk band's guitar parts way better. Oh, and there's the occasional rapping as well.

Only a little more than a year and a half after forming, Baby Baby has gained a cult following, been featured in Performer magazine, toured extensively throughout the southeast and was listed among Paste's top 100 bands at this year's SXSW.

Why all the buzz? Baby Baby's live show possesses the unique ability to turn a complacent crowd into a rowdy family, all united under the simple feeling of loving music. I recently spoke with Baby Baby about failed dates, having fun and their upcoming CD Money.

Why did you guys pick a band name that's so difficult to find on Google?

Fontez Brooks: I know, right? Funny thing is, the band name Baby Baby, the words are very popular, it's so hard to pick out. But I'm gonna answer your question with a question. How does it feel when it rolls off your tongue? That's why we picked the band name.

What are some of your influences?

Brooks: Michael Jackson is a big influence. He stood up in the face of adversity; he made the kind of music he wanted to make. We all came from that whole scene with Taking Back Sunday. But when we get to what the music we make sounds like. You know, you see a pretty girl walking down the street, you want to give her a call but she won't call you back. That's the influence right there. You're at a really cool bar downtown, little Cabbagetown bar or something. You buy this girl a drink, you think, ‘Oh man I'm gonna take her home and her friend,' but she ends up going home with a different friend. Those are our influences.

How do you guys approach your live show?

Grant Wallace: First things first: drink. We don't prefer beer, it makes you really groggy, and you gotta be able to move around and jump up and down and kick the air. And then we do a band hug, and then we have a lot of fun, and get the crowd to enjoy us by any means necessary. And somewhere during the set, everyone gets pretty naked. That's the sort of general direction we take.

How would you describe your live show to someone who's never heard you guys before?

Wallace: It's dancey, mixed with in your face rock ‘n' roll, swooning, a comedy skit, a burlesque show and a good old-fashioned hoedown.

What should fans expect from your upcoming album in May?

Wallace: They should expect something new. We got songs about girls, we got songs about boys, we got songs about a bank robbery, we got sandwiches — and kids, lots of kid metaphors. Not like little kids, but us being kids that have grown up because we like to think we're young.

How do you think Georgia works in terms of its music scene?

Wallace: To be brutally honest. Atlanta's cool, there's not really a scene in Carrollton but that's okay. Athens is very, very hippie, the only reason I say that is they don't pay musicians twice, and if they do, you got like a few dollars. Macon's pretty cool, Columbus has its ups and downs, mostly ups. As far as bands helping out other bands, I feel like we do a pretty good job there. I don't feel like we come in contact with stuffy sort of bands, there's not a lot snobby bands we've met. But I will say there are some bands that should call it a day only because it doesn't look like they're having fun. And if it doesn't look like you're having fun, then get off the stage." - Paul Demerritt / GSU Signal

Parachute Musical are performing second.

Parachute Musical isn't what it used to be. Since it's conception in 2003, the Nashville-based, piano-fronted indie rock quartet is building a better city with perfect song-craft, highly energetic performances, and a hearty work ethic. Since the sold-out show for their sophomore release, Everything is Working Out Fine in Some Town (2008), these charmingly handsome brunettes have been touring the U.S. coast to coast for two years now and have built up quite a loyal following in the process. It's the good looks really, though.

D.C. natives Josh Foster (vocals/piano), Tom Gilbert (guitar/vocals), and Ben Jacoby (drums) deposited themselves into Nashville just a year before releasing Everything is Working Out, and work out it did. The guys settled in place after discovering Tennessee music man Andrew Samples (bass/vocals). Foster's soaring voice and detailed compositions are the perfect home for Gilbert's unique, artistic style on guitar, and Samples' driving bass sparks a fire under Jacoby, setting ablaze a well-matched rhythm section.

New songs are now pouring out of them! Their latest single, No Comfort, was released in January 2010, kicking off another whole year of touring. The single features two new songs recorded with Nashville producer Derek Garten, whom the band worked with on the previous record.

The new sound is a step ahead in the right direction. Foster's lyrics remain heartfelt while the music becomes stronger. It is original and well-rehearsed; they're so tight you'd swear they were all wearing girdles. These guys are having fun, no doubt about it, and there isn't another band in Nashville more ready to be taken seriously.

Machines Are People Too are the opener.

Electro-Dance band Machines Are People Too formed in Chattanooga, TN in the sweaty summer months of '09. After dancing to JJ's music at a number of house parties, Brian finally got the opportunity to put clean vocals over JJ's well-produced beats. The two began writing together and performing as Machines Are People Too at monthly dance parties with two keyboards, a laptop, and a microphone. Their self-released DIY EP consisted of 4 songs released only on cassette. Each hand-stamped tape included custom labels and provided you with a tangible alternative to free downloads. After a year of dancing and playing with DJs, the duo was ready to expand their band and overall sound. Longtime friend, Cain Lassiter, was asked to blow his saxophone on a few tracks and proceeded to bring his other talents to the band. Now playing keys and bass, Cain continues to add innovation to MRP2. Keeping the beat better than any beat machine and filling the gaps with style, Ivan became the perfect addition to Machines. The band's eclectic sound and progressive music creates a live show that leaves no toes untapped and will leave you with no other choice but to let go and dance.

Attention System are headlining the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, May 20th, 2011

"Creating pulsing, danceable rock that remains smart and sharply aggressive is no easy task. It takes only a slight nudge to teeter over into self-indulgent parody or to cover any sense of substantive heft in a sheen of overly-stylized plasticity (see The Killers). Fortunately, Atlanta’s Attention System keep one foot firmly in their punk and rock roots, adding generous slabs of dissonance and distortion to their kinetic darkwave and synth pop." - Latest Disgrace

The Sexual Side Effects are the opener.

One of Atlanta’s most talked-about bands, The Sexual Side Effects are an eclectic and electric alternative rock group drawing from the influences of post-punk and 70′s glam rock. Their songs resonate with rich chords, hypnotic vocal melodies, catchy hooks, and ethereal guitars. The group has played throughout the southeast and has developed a loyal and viral fan base who attend their shows in throngs.

Fronting the band is accomplished multi-instrumentalist Amber Taylor, who shot to regional fame headlining Atlanta’s infamous glam/punk rock Glitterdome and the band Cobweb Strange. “Spikey” Mike Sidner (former bassist, Liquid Image) complements this highly charged, heart- and pulse-throbbing band. Clay McClure (drummer, Flat Cat) completes the act on battery.

SSE are currently working with producer John Briglevich (Drivin’ N Cryin’, Edwin McCain, Red Letter Agent) of Sonica Recording on their debut EP, and will soon be finalizing dates for an upcoming tour.

The Universe Divide is performing second.

In 2007, Chris Rushing and Gaël Pirlot began a project with the intention of juxtaposing challenging compositions with melodic ideas; the result became The Universe Divide. The project became dormant as the two exhausted their hopes of finding a percussionist and began focusing on other musical endeavors (Canvas Solaris, The Burden of Existence). However, in 2009, a chance encounter with drummer Jason Parker revived the project and the quest for intergalactic entropy. 2010 has brought the trio out of rehearsal and onto multiple stages across Atlanta. The new 5 song E.P. produced by Jamie King at The Basement Recording is set to be released in the Summer of 2011.
