Book Of Colors are performing at the Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, May 12th

is presenting:

Book Of Colors here at The Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, May 12th, 2012.

Dreamy, hypnotic musicianship which constantly skirts the edge between torn-open soulfulness and delicate restraint. The songs are constructed and arranged meticulously, yet the focus remains on strong melodies and sweet, poignant lyrics.

River Whyless will be performing before Book Of Colors.

River Whyless (formerly Do it to Julia) is now based out of Asheville, North Carolina and has quickly become known throughout the southeast for their fresh sound and the energy of their live show. With a graduate of Appalachian State’s School of Music and a classically trained violinist, River Whyless combines technical skill with the creative gifts of the band’s co-songwriters Ryan O’Keefe and Halli Anderson to produce an unclassifiable sound.

Lily & The Tigers will be performing first.

Inspired by the soul of the South and the spirit of gypsies, Lily and the Tigers play what they call gothic Americana music. Since the band’s 2009 conception and their first national tour, Lily and the Tigers has blossomed into a full sound of fiddle, alto clarinet, drums, upright bass, and two guitars. Together these six summon a fiery energy that requires no amps to be heard and taken to heart.

Antbrain are performing here on Friday, May 11th

is presenting:

Antbrain here at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, May 11th, 2012.

Antbrain plays their brand of rock music with a crooked smile. Audiences can't help but smile back as their ears get gently tickled by the fuzzy guitars, driving basslines and pummeling rhythms. Starting out as a sporadic recording project for guitarist Jiyoung Lee and bassist Dave Bonawits in 2008, the band discovered their true self when they added drummer Josh Hall in mid-2010. Since then they've been winning audiences over with their self described "slop-pop."

White Suns are performing here on Wednesday, May 9th

is presenting:

White Suns here at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012.

"This Brooklyn trio plays pulverizing noise-punk that has some recent parallels like Sightings, Pissed Jeans, and Drunkdriver. But where those bands tend to favor noise or punk depending on their moods, White Suns have discovered an exact midpoint where noise's anarchy can squeeze inside the lines of muscular punk. That sweet spot might have ended up being just an exercise, though, if not for singer Kevin Barry, who yells at the chaotic music until it has no choice but to listen." --Marc Masters / Pitchfork

Originally from Allentown, PA, Dominic Cipolla has called Louisville KY, home for more then 20 years. During his early years in Louisville, as well as playing in bands including seminal Louisville collective Sapat, he formed a friendship and musical connection with Michael McMahan (The For Carnation/Slint). After playing in several bands together, including the Louisville favorite Starkiller, Cipolla began writing and recording The Legend Of Black Six, the first release under the name Phantom Family Halo. Other then enlisting McMahan for some guitar wizardry, it would be the first of several records that he was mainly responsible for the writing, instrumentation and recording process. In 2009 the same solo approach was used again for the sprawling double L.P., Monoliths and These Flowers Never Die, and in 2010 with the soundtrack Music From Italian T.V.

Clang Quartet is the one-man Harsh Noise/Percussion/Performance Art show of Scotty Irving. Since the first Clang Quartet show in January 1997, the show has changed more times than I can remember. I use drums, broken cymbals, some standard percussion, and some homemade instruments. I normally play 15-25 minutes and the shows are all somewhat different each night. Even I don't always have an exact idea of what will happen! I'm glad God is in control because I know I am not!!!

Nigredo will be playing a show here on Saturday, May 5th

Nigredo are headlining The Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, May 5th, 2012.

"Last decade's waves of post-rock held Mogwai and Godspeed sacred and referenced Radiohead-style shimmer and clarity. It may not be fair, then, to call a recent crop of bands, including Atlanta's Nigredo, by that title. In their pantheon are dark, moody bands like Isis. Yes, the material is still epic with heavy emotional overtones, but the focus on triumph is gone. Nigredo tends toward a balance of punishing, mid-tempo crunch and disquieting ambience. Their ghostly guitar phrases build to plaintive howls, and they command vivid imagery without resorting to vocals." —Corbie Hill --Indyweek.com

is presenting:

Racebannon here at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012.

Midway between a deleted scene from River's Edge and the resurrection of Frankenstein to unleash havoc upon the villagers that put him under, the Racebannon sound is one of many disparate influences that blend seamlessly into one lethal cocktail of hatred and aggression, draped in a cerecloth of pure molten rock that is as unforgiving as it is pulse-quickening. Indie rock? No. Metal? No. Hardcore? No. Noise core? No. Racebannon? Yes. It really is that simple.

Racebannon on Facebook

Order Of The Owl will be performing before Racebannon.

With a backstory as epic as their name, Order of the Owl brings some of Atlanta’s most die-hard musicians together in one growling beast of a band. Fronted by Zoroaster’s Brent Anderson, the sound is decidedly metal, but drummer Corey Pallon’s classic rock influence and guitarist Casey Yarbrough’s driving progressive chords give new life to the usual detuned fare Atlanta’s grown so famous for.

is presenting:

Gospel Music here at the Drunken Unicorn on Tuesday, May 1st, 2012.

Gospel Music, the nom de tune of Black Kids bassist Owen Holmes.

"A charming 11-song collection of wry, literate lo-fi indie pop, Gospel Music's debut LP, How To Get To Heaven From Jacksonville, FL, sees Holmes further developing his homespun style first heard on 2010's aptly titled duettes EP, a 5-song collection of duets with members of The Magnetic Fields, Camera Obscura, Vivian Girls, Hefner and Soko. On Heaven Holmes layers toy piano, organ, ukulele and banjo over bouncy basslines, minimalist drums and jangly guitars as he sings tales of unrequited love, long-distance running and avoiding an ex in a small town. Called "a lo-fi indie delight" by Magnet, Gospel Music has garnered comparisons to The Magnetic Fields, Moldy Peaches, Jonathan Richman and other purveyors of entertaining, heartbreaking and poetic narratives." - Sam McDonald / Daily Press
