"Much like Southern rock revivalists My Morning Jacket and Kings of Leon, Steel Train take a post-punk approach to the hoary sounds of '70s album-oriented rock. Taking their name from a Bob Marley song, singer Scott Irby-Ranniar and guitarist Jack Antonoff (also a member of Fun) formed Steel Train as a New York busking duo in 1999, two years after Irby-Ranniar originated the role of Young Simba in the Broadway musical The Lion King. Second guitarist Matthew Goldman, bassist Evan Winiker, and drummer Matthias Gruber were soon added to the lineup, and the nascent five-piece signed to Drive Thru Records in 2002, releasing their debut EP For You My Dear early the next year. 2003 also saw the release of 1969, a concept EP of six songs from the titular year by the Jackson 5, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bob Marley, David Bowie, the Beatles, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Steel Train's debut full-length, Twilight Tales from the Prairies of the Sun, was released in 2005, featuring several songs about the breakup of Antonoff's relationship with actress Scarlett Johansson. After the resulting tour was completed, Goldman and Gruber left Steel Train and were replaced by guitarist Daniel Silbert and drummer Jon Shiffman. Trampoline, the band's sophomore album and first to feature the revised lineup, was released in October 2007." - Stewart Mason
Set for a June 29th release on the band’s recently created label, Terrible Thrills, STEEL TRAIN is an infectious album, produced by Steven McDonald (Be Your Own Pet, Imperial Teen,) that brilliantly showcases a new level of songwriting and musicianship only hinted at in the band's earlier work. Lead singer and songwriter Jack Antonoff says the album “is a return to where we come from. We grew up playing legion halls and firehouses and the sound systems were always so bad we had to go ape shit to put on a real show, and somehow that inspired the music and lyrics to reflect all that madness.”
Steel Train’s blend of rock n roll, delivered with boundless energy, appeals to fans from all over the musical spectrum. The band’s collection of songs has been praised by Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, Relix, Esquire, Alternative Press and USA Today, among others, for its huge, exuberant hooks and galloping rhythms set off by a steady attack of guitars and yearning vocals.
STEEL TRAIN is the follow up to the band’s album TRAMPOLINE, which saw the New Jersey natives perform on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and share the stage with The Silversun Pickups, Ben Folds, Gomez and Say Anything, and appear at Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, to name a few.
Known for their unhinged live shows, Steel Train is already premiering these new songs to fans on the road; they’ve spent most of 2010 touring with Tegan and Sara. The band is looking forward to their Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival debut and a headlining tour this June.

Young the Giant’s sound is as uniquely diverse and eclectic as its five members. Sameer Gadhia, Payam Doostzadeh, Jacob Tilley, Francois Comtois and Eric Cannata hail from, surprisingly, Newport Beach, California. An assembly of international names and assorted backgrounds that combine to produce a refreshing brand of sun soaked Indie rock. With lush experimental compositions complimented by subtle yet infectious pop hooks and unique, soothing vocals, it is a sound all their own.
Predominantly comprised of teenagers, the five piece delivers mature arrangements far beyond their years. As high school students they conquered the local Orange County music scene winning awards and praise, quickly developing momentum that was soon challenged by their new college lives. At 5 different schools, divided by hundreds of miles of the California coast, the band persisted, continuing to play shows and write new music for their EP Shake My Hand.
With the release of Shake My Hand came the new and unexpected challenge of keeping up with the demands of critical and popular acclaim.With their single Cough Syrup becoming a local favorite on KROQ, and strong web chatter from sites like absolute punk who claimedthe EP was a “Slick set of rock songs… that for all of its cocksure maturity and tight, catchy production, can easily be confused with a veteran stadium show”, the praise was reaching much further than the shores of Newport Beach.
In early 2009 the band decided to leave their textbooks at school and hit the road throughout California to a growing following from San Francisco to San Diego. In a few months they went from playing smaller coffeehouses and clubs to headlining a packed House of Blues in Anaheim. In between they showcased at SXSW and opened for Ghostland Observatory, The Whigs, and Kings of Leon.
Currently the band is working on their first full length album with Grammy winning producer Joe Chicarelli (The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket, The Shins) to be released on Roadrunner Records in 2010.
