Psychedubasaurus REX is a new Atlanta SUPER group composed of Hijacking Music musicians.

MATTA GAWA is an improvising drums+guitar duo hailing from Washington DC. Building with time and texture, their music is deeply connected to the methods and spirit of jazz, while retaining the electric backbone of creative rock music. Loosely translated, MATTA GAWA means river of moments- an apt description for their spontaneously composed flow of singing guitars, free-form drumming, howling feedback, sub-blasting bass, stagger-stepped odd-time signatures, polyrhythmic beatrock + guitar solos.

Both founder members of DC’s New Atlantis Collective of musicians, drummer Sam Lohman has also worked with early NYHC legends Sheer Terror, the Radon Collective, Steve Mackay of the Stooges, and the Acid Mothers Temple. Guitarist Ed Ricart works with Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Peter Brotzmann, Herb Robertson, Jason Ajemian, G. Calvin Weston, and members of avant rock legends Fugazi, Bardo Pond, Pinback, Stinking Lizaveta, and the Swirlies.

Upcoming releases include ‘BA’ on Engine Studios (distributed internationally though ESP-DiSK) and an LP/CDR release on Thor’s Rubber Hammer. A second CD is set for a Spring 2011 release on New Atlantis Records (curated by Ed Ricart, and home to recordings by Peter Brotzmann, Han Bennink, and many more)-

Attention System will be performing at the Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, August 21st.



ATTENTION SYSTEM have managed to fuse electronics, post-punk and '80s synth pop creating a sound that is fluid and marketable, familiar yet different, sinister yet playful. They've been compared to The Faint, The Presets and Does It Offend You, Yeah? – and while the band certainly counts these among their influences, their music is infused with a brightness that stands out among its darker subtext. Their live shows have generated citywide buzz, landing them opening slots for national acts and the Readers Choice Award for Best New Music Act in The Creative Loafing’s Best Of Atlanta 2009 edition. Local and regional radio airplay from their "//demos" EP, plus a nationally televised commercial, speaks to a promising future.

ATTENTION SYSTEM has recently completed their first full-length album, "Wait for My Signal" and the band is gearing up for an explosive 2010 with the highly anticipated release of their CD, new High-definition videos and extensive bookings throughout the US.

"Listening to "Gender" is like going to a black-tie event with your beautiful actress-model girlfriend, being told by some friends and your manager that this band you absolutely have to hear if you haven't already is playing, having your coat taken for you before you remember to move your wallet from the front pocket where there's always the chance it might fall out like it does sometimes in cabs, especially since it doesn't even take much jostling to make anything fall out of that pocket, especially your wallet, but you can't do anything but worry about it now because your agent drags you thru room after room thru throngs of people, some of whom recognize you and try to get your attention but it's too late because now you're in the ballroom and here they are on this bandstand surrounded by really-well dressed people who you now notice are all wearing costumes even though no one told you this was a costume party and when you ask your manager about it you can't hear his answer, can't hear why he forgot to mention the costume thing or why for example it wasn't mentioned on the invitation about costumes, and your actress-model girlfriend is posing in a party mask for an impromptu picture taken by an inscrutable figure wearing what appears to be very expensive tatters whose sweat has mingled with make-up and the hor dourves you never saw being served and you immediately regret your decision to pull her mask when everyone near you reaches for your face and you're sure they know it's your face and try to focus on this great band whose drums sound like cannons and whose guitar sounds like desperate attempts to both heal multiple lacerations and to inflict deep cuts upon one's self and yet you nod and nod and nod and agree that yes this must be true, this is how that one tune goes, yes but now you're dizzy because it's too hot in the ballroom and you are not surrounded by anyone you know anymore, maybe they were taken off, maybe they were kidnapped, who knows, and the vocals you try to wrap your head around only remind you that you're on your own and that before you even got dressed for this shindig they were playing, that before you even woke up this morning, they were playing, that before you were born mon ami they were playing this most beautiful discord, this patient better noise. And you say to yourself, Christ this shit is good even though it may have been engineered to destroy you. We Are Country Mice are headlining the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, August 20th.



These four boys from Kansas, Wisconsin and Minnesota met in a Brooklyn warehouse in early 2009 to form We Are Country Mice. Since, they have released a couple of top-selling 7”s and caught some attention from the blogosphere with their 2009 CMJ performances. “In Wilco terms, We Are Country Mice make music that sounds like Being There mashed up with a little Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” - Pitchfork. RIYL - Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Wilco, Sonic Youth, Modest Mouse.

We Are Country Mice is comprised of Jason Rueger (vocals, guitar), Ben Bullington (vocals, guitar), Kurt Kuehn (drums) and Josh Kothe-Levie (bass).

We Are Contry Mice are about to release a third 7” on Mexican Summer and are currently recording a full-length album to be released in 2010.

Canadian new wave revivalists Dragonette are a bouncy electro-pop act with a glammy, polymorphic persona rather like that of the Scissor Sisters, with whom they share management, and a sound often akin to Hot Hot Heat, the first album by the Killers, and other successful revivers of the sound of MTV's first half-decade. Prior to the formation of Dragonette, singer and lyricist Martina Sorbara (the daughter of a member of Ontario's provincial government, Finance Minister Greg Sorbara) had maintained a moderately successful solo career as an adult album alternative solo artist in the style of Sarah McLachlan or other delicate neo-folkies; Sorbara's debut solo album, The Cure for Bad Deeds, was released in 2002. She has since disparaged her former Lilith Fair-style musical efforts with the pungent phrase "tampon music"; just as notoriously, her father dismissed Dragonette in a quote to the Scottish newspaper The Daily Record as a "market-driven" phase that was "part of the raciness of current popular culture."

Sorbara formed Dragonette in 2005 with her husband, bassist Dan Kurtz (formerly of the jazz and electronica-influenced Toronto-based jam band the New Deal), guitarist Simon Craig, and drummer Joel Stouffer. A self-released and self-titled demo that year attracted the attention of the U.K. office of Mercury Records, which offered the group a recording contract the following year. Moving their base of operations from Toronto to London (and losing Craig in the process, replaced by British guitarist Will Stapleton), Dragonette released their first single, "I Get Around," in April 2007. Three more singles followed, "Take It Like a Man," "Competition," and a gender-reversal cover of Calvin Harris' hit "The Girls" called "The Boys." Dragonette's debut album, Galore, was released in late summer 2007. The same year, Martina Sorbara sang the lead vocals on the hit Basement Jaxx single "Take Me Back to Your House." Galore was released in the U.S. in 2008 via I Surrender Records.

Shy Child are the second performer.



Pete Cafarella (keyboard, vocals) and Nate Smith (drums), both former members of El Guapo, formed Shy Child just after the two moved to New York City. Cafarella had also previously worked with composer Anthony Braxton, while Smith had played drums with Touchdown (Troubleman Records). The duo's first record, Please Consider Our Time, was given proper release by Montreal's Grenadine Records in 2002, with the Humanity EP following in late 2003. After a brief tour of Japan in early 2004, Shy Child recorded One With the Sun with producer Chris Zane (Les Savy Fav, Calla), which was released on Say Hey Records in October 2004.
