Life At Sea are going to be performing second.

Life at Sea is a local indie rock band that refuses to choose between pop and experimental. Set to a backdrop of moody post-punk rhythms and shimmering angular guitars they craft songs cinematic in scope. Songwriter Erik Shepard weaves melodies that get inside your head and burrow into your subconscious.

The Romans will be starting the show.

The Romans are a three piece indie rock band from Atlanta, GA. Their sound combines elements of dark new wave, 80′s pop, shoegaze and alternative music. Large lush atmospheric soundscapes engulf plaintive vocals while serving as a backdrop for philosophical lyrics dealing with loss, self realization, melancholy, brokenness and joy. Their ability to move effortlessly from dark to light and loud to soft within a set or on an album is what sets them apart from other bands within their genre.

MyNameIsJohnMichael are performing here on Friday, September 14th.

is presenting:

MyNameIsJohnMichael here at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, September 14th, 2012.

MyNameIsJohnMichael, despite the misnomer, is not just one man but a six-piece indie rock/pop collective hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. John Michael Rouchell originally created MyNameIsJohnMichael as a solo project in 2007. Spinner

Austin Archer will be performing before MyNameIsJohnMichael.

It all begins with a melody, simple on its first chance hearing, but like an idea it must be built upon — with Austin Archer those early movements that conceive a song soon take on an operatic sensibility as a human sense of dramatics are hushed in. Nothing is smoldered down or weakened, guitars marry to create a journey, a testament of human endurance of the complex notion to be comfortable and understand where one’s feet are standing. Haunting as much as hopeful, life as much as death, Austin Archer sets out to capture the life he sees and feels exists.

James Wallace & The Naked Light will be performing first.

It was once said that James Wallace would be the kind of guy you'd want on your side if you ever got into a music fight in prison. He'd probably tell you that too, just to clarify his position on not getting into a real fight in prison. That said, his penchant for dark and clever wordplay above eerily-cheery melodies, begs there may be a few twisted stories from his past that we've yet to hear.

Hunter Valentine are performing here on Thursday, September 13th, 2012

is presenting:

Hunter Valentine here at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, September 13th, 2012.

Raucous and direct, the outfit comprised of vocalist/guitarist Kiyomi McCloskey, bassist Adrienne Lloyd and drummer Laura Petracca exemplifies girls with a united goal, intense friendship, respect and ability that solidifies their edgy albeit refined music. There's no hyperbole when it comes to Hunter Valentine. Everything has a direct message, delivered with a devout refusal for glitz or glamour. The hard line says it all, conveyed by confident, unbridled rock 'n' roll.

The Sexual Side Effects are performing before Hunter Valentine.

Drawing comparisons to Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde, front girl Amber Taylor knows how to work a crowd, with an aura that reverberates on and off stage. Her electric charisma and haunting voice command attention while her epileptic guitar work leaves audiences gasping for breath. Guitarist Ryan McDougall adds complex textures and edgy solos while bassist Mike Sidner and drummer Clay McClure lay down solid, yet understated, grooves.

The Sexual Side Effects on Facebook

Vyie will be starting the show.

Once upon a time [March of 2012], friends and protagonists of a like-minded cause, Janey Criss and Jessi Monroe, stole three days from their lives of post-wizardry and fashioning, of sorts, in order to conduct a musical writing experiment. The result was an assuming product for the formulaic concoction at hand: boisterous synths, curious minors, acoustic elements, playful rhythms and thick, resolute vocals. Shortly following the experiment, Alec Yeager was invited to add thoughtful battery to the equation. Logistics were discussed. And VYIE became.

is presenting:

Quiet Company here at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, September 6th, 2012.

"Quiet Company has constructed the music to channel a kind of Saves the Day/Get Up Kids power-punk youth, only mirroring the lyrical sensibilities of, say, The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy. Muse’s lyrics tell a tale of someone moving away from God and the church and questioning a belief system that seems flawed and circumspect. “The Black Sheep & the Shepherd” puts it simply: “And into safer arms we run/with a thorn in our sides and devils inside/So who are we running from?”" - Consequence Of Sound

Sonen are headlining the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, August 31st, 2012.

SONEN's thundering bass lines, vintage tinged strings and harmonious male-female vocals create a unique sound that can best be described as seductive. The approach to the new record has been multifarious in nature. On one hand, the self produced and recorded group has moved farther into the electronic realm creating a sound that is both thoughtfully dynamic and equally at home on packed dance floors. On the other hand, the album evokes a sense of warmth brought on by epic buildups, moaning analog synthesizers, and infectious hooks.

"Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifter's deliver a seamless performance with no “dead air” between songs. It is hard to not be put into a trance-like state while listening to their music, the same holds true for their live performance. Watching Damon perform live is truly a whole other experience taking us beyond the range or limits of what you would expect. We promise you, there is no way you will walk away from a Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifter's performance not feeling like you just heard someone’s life story that was so touching and real, and relatable. Their sound is compared to psychedelic Skynyrd, Moody Blues, classic country rock, entrancing really. It all depends on the song and their mood, and it’s just another reason to try on this band!" - Indie Music Reviewer
