The Levee was birthed out of a need to create. Brandon Funk came to the table with 14 songs with the intention of recording an EP using only local talent out of Atlanta for everything it takes to make an album. After enlisting the help of Kyle Schumacher and Michael Stallings to help record his solo project, the three knew that they had something unique. The EP turned into an LP, and the solo project turned into a band, and after recently solidifying their line up with the addition of Tucker Richmond, The Levee released their debut full length on May 20, 2011.
In August of 2007, brothers Andrew and Dan Callaway found themselves living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the entire family together for the first time since their childhood spent in the English countryside. Along with their father, Liam Callaway, the trio of musicians began writing songs reflective of their Athens, Georgia roots and their fortuitous return to the South.
Capillaries here at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, April 11th, 2012. Capillaries will be celebrating the release of the CD version of "Into The History Of Light" as well.
Capillaries is an instrumental band of four from Atlanta, GA. The music of Capillaries captures a dark history and remains willing to stay behind and investigate it. There are hints of ambience with a sense of immediacy driving it along. Noise and melody become unintended bedfellows. Bass-driven leads and non-traditional rhythms become the substratum for soaring guitars that take listeners to new heights just before pummeling them back into the earth.
Genres do little to describe the sound of Odist. Comprising three passionate musicians, Jason Craig, (bass and samples), Sarah Wilson, (drums), and Parker Newell (guitar). Odist are known for merging genres with captivating albums and energetic live shows.
Gun Party are playing at the Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, April 7th, 2012.
From the pits of Georgia comes an eclectic hornet's nest of melodic mayhem. A fusion of indie dance rock and daddy issues, Gun Party has been known to cause uncontrollable seizures of dance.
Joined by members of sister-band “Beau Victrola” and infused with “tea-party” style drum-section consisting of two count-em two hot chick drummers and Gary Eddy, The Dandyls is the sell-out project of anti-folk crooner Frut Dangoes whose ecclectic solo-acoustic sets have gathered much respect but ya can’t eat respect from Atlanta’s broke-ass spiritualist social intellectual scene.
"Pillage and Plunders first EP “Look Inside For The Prize” is a rock pop ride that is reminiscent of something Weezer might do. The three piece band...offers up to us a musical treat that is fun to listen to and catchy enough to want to play over and over again. 3 out of 4 stars." - Be Atlanta
PacificUV are headlining the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, April 6th, 2012.
One wanted the band to sound like a psychedelic Jesus and Mary Chain tripping on Nyquil, while the other wanted to play one chord for 45 minutes to determine its color.
Calm White Noise are performing before PacificUV and are ALSO celebrating the release of "EP 1"!
Very fresh to the Atlanta music scene is Calm White Noise. The band began to take life in the early months of 2011. Band leader and creator, Dylan Banks, gathered three of the best musicians in the Atlanta area (Ricky Taft, Bill Walker, Andre Griffin) to help turn his visions and ideas into a full functioning entity of marvelous sound waves.
Brett Leggitt or "Deku" is an Atlanta producer who makes loop-based experimental downtempo electronic music. Being very fickle and constantly infatuated with some new sound, instrument, or technique results in the producer covering a wide palette of styles and genres. His self-described "primitive" methods give his music a unique texture and flavor all it's own.
Nervous Curtains here at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, April 5th, 2012.

"High Water Music recording artist, Willie Evans Jr. is the physical manifestation of Hip-Hop and one of the funkiest cats to ever touch a microphone and an MPC. You see, not only will Willie rap circles around your favorite rappers, favorite rapper, he can also craft a beat, so funky that Clyde Stubblefield himself would be proud. The Jacksonville, Florida bred MC/Producer/Visual Artist is at the forefront of a collective of artists that have single handedly managed to put Northeast Florida on the map as a cauldron of Hip-Hop and artistic expression and is now set to show the world that some of the funkiest cats in Hip-Hop call Duval County home." The Bukkake Boys are playing here at The Drunken Unicorn on Monday, April 2nd, 2012.
"Bukkake Boys are the best hardcore band in Atlanta right now, which I guess isn't say that much, so let me rephrase that; they are one of the top 3 BANDS in Atlanta right now. They are fast, not as fast as Cheeseburger, they are rough, the are gnarly, and they are fucking great (think Reagan Youth). Like all the best hardcore bands of the first wave of hardcore, Bukkake Boys manage to sneak subtle melodies and catchy hooks into the wall of distortion, making their songs memorable and infinitely more listenable than some lame metallic hardcore, or grindcore, or whatever." - Shiny Grey Monotone
Sickoids will be performing before the Bukkake Boys.
"I was fortunate to see the second SICKOIDS show in April, and I was sufficiently floored. They have clearly spent some serious time studying the guitar tones of the '80s greats, and have managed to combine classic Midwest hardcore and UK anarcho punk into one magical tone that shines through even on this rough demo recording. The SICKOIDS' sound lands nearby - with elements of legendary US hardcore colliding with modern melody and an approach clearly rooted in UK punk (PENI is heavily represented in most aspects of this recording, even the US hardcore bits). The players here are top notch (members of WITCH HUNT, DIRECT CONTROL, GOVERNMENT WARNING and CRACKS, among others), but previous bands be damned when I heard this shit, and this demo just serves to make me excited for future vinyl releases." - Terminal Escape
The 4th Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra will be performing here at The Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, March 31st, 2012.
The 4th Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra, based in Atlanta, Georgia an eight piece jazz ensemble performs original compositions and arrangements merging klezmer music with West-African influenced rhythmic styles.

Grand Prize Winners From Last Year is a trio of drum machinists, guitarists, keyboardists, horn players, and overall sound sculptors. They refer to their sound as genre-less but have been compared to "Outkast meets TV On The Radio meets Blondie."We like to think our music sounds like when self-medication is going good." G.P.W.F.L.Y. have no predisposition about their music and have stated "We are not in or out of the box because to us there is no box."
Emerging during a time when mediocrity and electronic music held sway, and every kid in a flat-billed hat with a macbook and pirated copy of Ableton Live was considered to be a musician, Opposite Box set out to take back the music scene from the “push play generation” by blending high energy, funk-infused weirdness and mind expanding cross-genre exploration into an acid-drenched circus sure to leave listeners covered in a cocktail of blood, sweat, tears and snot.
Attention System at the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, March 30th, 2012.
ATTENTION SYSTEM has created an institution based on hybridizing the sweaty, three-in-the-morning dance music they love with the guitars and drums they can’t seem to put down.
Death Of Paris will be performing before Attention System.
Death of Paris began in 2009 when co-founders Jayna Doyle and Blake Arambula began writing together, but since welcoming guitarist Patrick Beardsley, bassist Patrick North and drummer Bryan Bass into the fold in late 2010.
SONEN is an indie-electro-future-pop band that originated in Atlanta, GA and consists of Keith Evans (vocals, guitar, bass), Holly Mullinax (vocals, synth) and Josh Guss (synth, guitar). Their first full length release, Velocity, will drop in Summer of 2012 and will be a follow up to 2010’s Devious Device EP. One part synthesizer sex and two parts pulsating beat hypnosis, the album will take you on a journey that culminates into a writhing climax of ecstasy that leaves you spent and grinning from ear to ear with a cigarette in hand.
Ed Schrader's Music Beat here at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, March 28th, 2012.
Ed preformed solo for 3 years traveling the country with his voice and a drum. He was asked to play a rave in Baltimore. Looking to expand his performance, he asked Devlin to join him onstage with his bass. Since then the two have been making rock music of the finest variety, with their sights on the world.
Matt Owen & The Eclectic Tuba is starting the show.
Matt has taken a wide range of classical training and style and technique influences from today's popular musical artists such as Keller Williams, Jason Mraz, The Flaming Lips, and Nat McIntosh and blended them into a smooth, eclectic rock tuba groove. During shows, Matt will loop percussive sounds, tuba bass lines, and grooving synthesizers resulting in a powerhouse jams with ripping tuba solos.
