Matt Owen & His Eclectic Tuba here at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, July 11th.
Matt is a tuba player living and gigging near Birmingham, Alabama. He has taken a wide range of classical training and style and technique influences from today's popular musical artists such as Keller Williams, Jason Mraz, The Flaming Lips, and Nat McIntosh and blended them into a smooth, eclectic rock tuba groove. During shows, Matt will loop percussive sounds, tuba bass lines, and grooving synthesizers resulting in a powerhouse jams with ripping tuba solos.
Secondhand Jones will be performing before Matt Owen & His Eclectic Tuba.
Secondhand Jones gives voice to a perpetually questioning conscience that is coupled to an overactive imagination and fueled by the scent of overheated vacuum tubes. The result is a blend of riff-based rock and soaring melodic texture that overlays often raw and pointed lyrical content.
Saint Ugly are performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, July 7th, 2012.
Saint Ugly is an indie quintet from Atlanta, GA who specialize in raw songs of love, sin, redemption, hitch hikers, poison animals, dirty carburetors, tulips, swift justice, parachutes, never ending vines, concrete, and general insomnia. This shit doesn’t come with training wheels.
Pillage & Plunder will be performing before Saint Ugly.
"Pillage and Plunder is a strange beast. The six songs on their debut EP find an unusual intersection between bright, clean indie-pop and math-rock complexity, resulting in a sound that’s a little jarring on first listen. Give the songs a little time, though, and it all starts to come together...There’s something unique here, and I look forward to hearing from them in the future." - Little Advances

There comes a time in every bands life when they must ask their selves “what are we doing?” Yeah we know life gets rough but, it’s the music that makes you want to
forget about that sorry stuff. What are we doing? We are playing music!! Music that makes us dance, makes us sing, makes us want to keep playing songs for you with every entangled organ we own. We’ve heard the sad stuff and that just isn’t going to do. Truly ask yourself, look deep inside you and search for the answer… when was the last time you got your face painted? When was the last time you danced to some fun rock, baby? Tomorrow the light bill is due, but tonight we dance.
Mama Gypsy here at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, July 4th, 2012.
Atlanta based Mama Gypsy was founded by friends Trey Hawkins and Dustin Boyer after a few acoustic gigs around the city. Both founders are recent college graduates who have been playing music majority of their lives and intend to pursue careers in the music industry.
Since 2007 Extra Life have challenged and uplifted the underground music scene with their dark, dramatic, unclassifiable blend of pop, prog, metal, classical, experimental and ancient folk aesthetics. The group was founded by singer Charlie Looker after his departure from influential New York noise-chamber group Zs and his brief stint with the Dirty Projectors. For Extra Life, Looker brought together a quintet of diverse talents from the Northeast avant rock scene: drummer Nick Podgurski, formerly of Yukon; violinist/guitarist/producer Caley Monahon-Ward of Snowblink; saxophonist/keyboardist Travis Laplante of Little Women; and bassist Tony Gedrich of Stats.
We're an alternative/indie rock band from the Atlanta area. We make purposeful music and we want YOU to listen closely and feel the passion that we feel!
The Joy Kills here at the Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, June 30th, 2012.
What exactly are The Joy Kills? Are they are a band, or a way of life? The answer is both. Fusing punk ethos with dirty blues licks, The Joy Kills sound like your favorite band's favorite band. Atlanta's emerging garage rock scene is a fledgling scene at best with potential saviors on every street corner. The Joy Kills are no savior - just compelling reminder that rock n roll is a gritty, kick in the face! Sometimes that's all you need.
The Romans here at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, June 29th, 2012.
The Romans are a four piece indie rock band from Atlanta, GA. Their sound combines elements of dark new wave, 80′s pop, shoegaze and alternative music. Large lush atmospheric soundscapes engulf plaintive vocals while serving as a backdrop for philosophical lyrics dealing with loss, self realization, melancholy, brokenness and infinite joy. Their ability to move effortlessly from dark to light and loud to soft within a set or on an album is what sets them apart from other bands within their genre.
Easter Island will be performing before the Romans.
Formed by brothers Ethan and Asher Payne in 2010, Easter Island creates panoramic, post-rock inspired dream pop. Behind the wall of towering drums, glassy guitars, and the forceful tide of synthesizers, hide soft-spoken melodies, tender harmonies, and understated musings on the subtle, yet visceral moments in life.
Little Horn began when Atlanta musician Keith Forrester wrote some songs about hard stuff he was going through. Being shy and reclusive about singing it wasn’t until a group picking session in Alabama where he was asked to sing a folk song that everyone else had forgotten the words to that his friend Daniel Bellury noticed his potential. After that fateful day Daniel stepped in to encourage and produce the aforementioned songs into recorded existence. The very minimal gothic-folk style album Such Pretty Houses was born and released very quietly on the then infant New York label Whaleheart Records which Daniel had founded to put out his and his friend’s recordings. With Keith's addition of a full band the Little Horn sound has evolved and gotten much bigger since Such Pretty Houses. This new sound was exemplified and outlined by their release of the Twelve EP on Whaleheart Records". They have been called a number of combinations of indie, folk, gothic, psychedelic, progressive and rock.
National Hotel Sound System will be performing before Laertes.
National Hotel Sound System is a groove-driven, somewhat electronic, somewhat experimental musical experience comprised of deep bass tones, warm synth tones, tribal funk drum lines, polyrhythmic percussion excursions, and epic movements. These Louisville, KY-based multi-instrumentalists conjure and deliver a transcendently underworldly blend of funk, rock, dance, gypsy, dub and space, often with cinematic overtones and psychedelic, mystical undertones, always with intrigue and immediacy.

Birdcloud is Makenzie and Jasmin from East Nashville and Cottontown, respectively. Birdcloud met in Murfreesboro and immediately didn’t like eachother. At a party in 2009 they had some whiskeys and became friends and started dicking around on guitar, writing their first song, a song about going down on your best friend, now lost to the sands of time. Despite a lukewarm reception at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe, they have been sitting on eachother’s faces ever since, showing eachother their bruises and generally doing whatever they want when it works out that way.
