Wednesday, March 12th is Stinking Lizaveta

Stinking Lizaveta are coming to the Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, March 12th.

"The Philadelphia power trio Stinking Lizaveta comes to town celebrating the release of an intense new record, "Sacrifice and Bliss." The band, which takes its name from a mute character in Dostoyeveky's "The Brothers Karamazov," plays heavy instrumental rock that meshes complicated and precise prog-rock passages, gloomy riffs in the Black Sabbath vein, and occasional free-jazz blowouts. Led by the melodic guitar playing of Yanni Papadopoulos and backed by a frenetic rhythm section made up of Papadopoulos's brother Alexi, on bass, and the drumer Cheshire Agusta, the group has been a linchpin in the vibrant West Philly underground since its founding, fifteen years ago. They are uncompromising in the best sense of the word." - New Yorker event listings, June 1, 2009 Cake Shop, May 30

Miles From Pangaea is providing main support.

"MILES FROM PANGAEA seamlessly blends influences ranging from Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra to bring forth their original sound of instrumental psychedelic jazz fusion. With their recent addition of saxophone to the mix, the sound is strengthened and is a force to be reckoned with." - SSE

The Humboldt Trio are opening.

"We've been a band since early 2008. The two founding members, jerad and clayton, found ryan sims to be their bass player and changed the name of the band from humboldt to the humboldt trio. since the band started, there have been a few line-up changes in regards to the bass position. micheal came to us near the end of the year in '08. the band has released a free demo and is working on a full length to be independently released some time in '09. Jerad and clayton have been in bands together for a few years now. Shoot the messenger, moving to canada, and panda attack are some of the bands they've been involved in. these projects were mostly grind and hardcore. these projects have played with unpersons, the blame game, big penguin, a gun called life, anne august, me and him call it us......etc; and played along side with fellow members such as ryan sims, josh swafford, josh hill, jeremy hill, adam halmark, and others equally as gifted and musical."
