"It sweeps the listener right into the full-on, bluesy shoegaze tsunami of “Both of Me”, but then a funny thing happens: All that stony gauze suddenly dissipates like so much Slowdive-y smoke by an open window, just as the album’s early upward trajectory hits its clear high water mark: “Missionaries”, a heavily stomping, perfectly mid-tempo slacker-rock anthem of monstrous proportions, the kind of thing I’d have proudly committed to a mix tape between songs by Sebadoh and Nirvana maybe 18 years ago."

Kuroma is the creation of Hank Sullivant, founding bassist of The Whigs and former touring guitarist with MGMT, who, in 2007, began to record and perform his own music. Paris, his well-received debut album, is composed of songs that he began writing as early as 2005. In addition to his own music, Hank has produced albums for Gift Horse, Wages, and Colour Revolt.
Over the last two years, Kuroma has opened for and toured with Jarvis Cocker, MGMT, and Primal Scream. Kuroma was selected by Spin Magazine as a must-see band at 2009 Bonnaroo and 2010 Bamboozle Fest. British magazine NME declared the live band one of the ten best performances at the CMJ Music Marathon in 2008.
Kuroma's new album, Psychopomp, will be released this fall.

They met wearing Pokemon costumes outside a WXYC 80’s Dance Party, and it was love at first sight. Over the course of the next several months, Lake Inferior started sharing guitar riffs, vocal melodies, and an apartment living room. Perhaps it was Nasir Abbas’ Chippendale costume at a Dressed to Get Screwed Party or maybe it was Derek Torres’ ever-present “Crust-tache,” but somehow Lake Inferior was able to win the hearts and minds of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community and ultimately find itself as the flagship band for UNC-Chapel Hill’s student record label Vinyl Records. A steady gig as the Saint Anthony’s Hall house band turned into opening slots for Deerhunter, Times New Viking, the Rosebuds, and Annuals, and the completely sold out, debut Lake Inferior EP has led to demand for a new vinyl 10”, Pegasaur, released in November 2009.
