If Child Bite were a game of four-square, the contenders would be George Clinton, Frank Zappa, John Zorn and Ian MacKaye. With Jello Biafra, Eric Burdon and Mike Patton waiting to compete. The squares would be outlined with Dimebag Darrell’s bones, Kurt Cobain’s (surprisingly buoyant) head would be the ball, Henry Rollins would referee, the Melvins would cheerlead and the whole event would take place inside one of Sufjan Stevens’s better nightmares. That being said, this band will have my vote for artist of the year as long as years exist.
This year in particular, Child Bite toured extensively in support of last year's full-length Fantastic Gusts of Blood, playing exactly 100 shows. Their touring took them all over the country including a trek to Alaska where they competed in the World Beard and Mustache Championships. On Halloween they shocked an audience of 1100 at the Crofoot, headlining as Rage Against the Machine in what I believe to be the performance of the year. They found time to release a series of three split 7-inch records with Big Bear, This Moment in Black History and DD/MM/YYYY respectively. They recorded another full-length record with J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) tentatively titled The Living Breathing Organ Summer which is now available.
